Interbancario Europeo -
the winter sports event in Lenggries

The history of the Interbancario goes back to 1961, when the idea was born in the Nevegal ski area near Belluno on the initiative of the Cassa di Risparmio di Verona Vicenza e Belluno to hold an in-house event. This meeting quickly developed into an internationally recognized winter sports event that today is one of the most traditional events in winter sports. The chronicle shows how the small regional Saturday race with award ceremony has evolved into today’s international event, where hundreds of participants compete against each other in various disciplines such as giant slalom and cross-country skiing over a week. Each discipline is divided into women’s and men’s categories, and at the end of the event, team rankings are also created.
Originally known as the “Meeting Interbancario”, the first event in 1961 already had fifteen banks and 63 runners. The following year there were already 130 runners and 26 banks. After several events in Nevegal, the event was taken over by the Turin Savings Bank in 1964 and continued in Bardonecchia, marking the beginning of a “masterful round trip” through the most famous Alpine ski areas. In 1967, the event received its international character when bank employees from abroad participated for the first time. With the increasing number of participants and categories, the event reached a new peak in 1985 with 2,314 participants. The first international event took place in 1973 in Lienz, followed by further premieres in Germany, Switzerland, France and Norway. The name of the event was changed to “Ski Meeting Interbancario Europeo” in 1976 and registered as a trademark.
The honor book of the Interbancario documents the history of the events, winners and participating banks and honors the ski resorts that have supported the organization over the years. Despite the increased sporting level, the Interbancario remains an important sports festival that offers the opportunity to maintain old friendships and make new ones. The permanent committee, founded in 1972, plays a crucial role in the organization and further development of the event. After the pandemic, the Interbancario has carried out great competitions in Carezza (2023), Kranska Gora (2024) and Pozza di Fassa (2025) in its usual strength and reunited the Interbancario community.
